Morfo.rest is a startup that focuses on large-scale ecological restoration of forest ecosystems, particularly in tropical and subtropical regions such as the Atlantic Forest and the African Equatorial Forest. The company's mission is to restore areas that were once forested but have been deforested and rendered unproductive.
Morfo.rest's business model involves a multi-step reforestation process. First, data is collected via drones and satellites to analyze the area to be reforested. Next, suitable, local, and even endemic species are selected from an internal catalog (i.e., previously studied and tested in the lab) and collected by local communities to best meet the ecosystem's needs.
The company then uses drones to disperse seeds in capsules containing all the necessary biological and nutritional elements for long-term reforestation. A single drone can treat up to 50 hectares per day, planting 180 capsules per minute on steep and difficult-to-access terrain. This method is 50 times faster than traditional reforestation solutions, and it eliminates the need for months of nursery growth.
Finally, the company monitors the progress of the plantations, paying special attention to biomass, biodiversity, and carbon stocks, using images taken by drones and satellites.
Morfo.rest serves clients who are interested in large-scale reforestation projects. The company makes money by charging for its reforestation services, which include data analysis, seed selection and collection, planting, and monitoring.
